Maritime Port and Cargo Security Summit

Network Centric Warfare 2005

First Annual National Conference on Environmental Sampling for Bio-Threat Agents
January 27–28, 2005 in Baltimore, Maryland
Sponsored by the U.S. Departments of Defense and Homeland Security and the Technical Support Working Group, this conference will create a forum for dialogue between government, industry, academia, and first responders to address critical issues in environmental sampling. Topics include lessons learned from the Anthrax attacks, agricultural and water security, and soil and air sampling standards.

National Threat Symposium
February 8–9, 2005 in North Las Vegas, Nevada
Sponsored by the Interagency OSPEC (Operations Security) Support Staff and the National Nuclear Security Administration, this 2-day symposium will focus on operations security, intelligence, threats to U.S. national security, and techniques for developing security awareness programs. B.A.T.T.L.E. 2005

The 2005 Basic Anti-Terrorism Training for Law Enforcement (B.A.T.T.L.E.) conference provides classroom and practical training to help local, state, and federal law enforcement officers and investigators, as well as intelligence personnel, to prepare to meet the challenges posed by the threat of terrorism.

Workshop on Biometrics and E-Authentication Over Open Networks
March 30–31, 2005 in Gaithersburg, Maryland
The objective of this 2-day workshop is to determine how biometrics can be used for remote e-authentication over open networks to meet the needs of the four authentication levels defined in the Office of Management and Budget's Memorandum "E-Authentication Guidance for Federal Agencies" (OMB M-04-04). Arson/Explosives Investigation Foundation Specialty Course

This course is designed for arson/explosives investigators and detectives assigned to fire, arson, and explosives investigations. TOPOFF 3 Full-Scale Exercise
April 4–8, 2005
Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, TOPOFF 3 is designed to strengthen the nation's capacity to prevent, prepare for, respond to, and recover from large-scale terrorist attacks involving weapons of mass destruction. More than 10,000 participants representing more than 200 Federal, State, local, tribal, private sector, and international agencies and organizations and volunteer groups will be able to participate in a Full-Scale Exercise that simulates exercise a coordinated national and international response to a large-scale, multipoint terrorist attack.

2005 Global Homeland Security Solutions Conference and Exposition: Practical Solutions to Compelling Security Challenges
April 5–7, 2005 in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina
This technology summit will address key homeland security issues that the public and private sectors face and will explore both existing and new technologies that can enable homeland security solutions. Geospatial information technology can provide government managers and decisionmakers with the data they need to confidently confront a wide variety of threats, including natural disasters, terrorist attacks, sabotage, and similar crises. This conference will focus on how information sharing and data fusion affect security priorities.

Northeast Region Conference and Exhibition
April 13–14, 2005 in Boxborough, Massachusetts
This 19th annual convention, which is designed for laboratory professionals, has an education track on terrorism. Topics include biological, chemical, and radiological terrorism and the establishment of safe level-4 laboratories. At the convention, laboratory professionals can participate in medical lab programs; learn about new services, products, and instruments; and attend management and technical sessions.

Anti-Terrorism Officer Program
April 18–19, July 18–19, and October 10–11, 2005 in Clearwater, Florida
This program, provided by the S2 Safety & Intelligence Institute, will prepare frontline security and police officers for deployment in environments where terrorism is a critical threat. The program explores contemporary terrorist methods and the basic anti-terrorism skills that all officers should possess.

Supply Chain Security in a New Business Environment: Spring 2005 Training Seminar
April 18–21, 2005 in Miami, Florida
This conference will focus on the need to improve supply chain security in the new business environment by strengthening the Customs/Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT). Topics include new C-TPAT security criteria, validation processes, risk assessment, benefits, how to identify anomalies in the global supply chain, best practices, global terrorism threats, and contraband smuggling trends and concealment methods. Ohio Homeland Security Symposium

Homeland Defense Training Conference: Maritime Security: A Look Ahead
May 2, 2005 in Arlington, Virginia
Maritime security involves all activities that aim to protect our nation's ports and maritime systems. Annually, 7,500 foreign flagships make 51,000 calls in U.S. ports along 95,000 miles of coastline. Too much of what comes into these ports is not examined, leaving the United States open to catastrophic disasters that would paralyze the maritime community. This conference will examine what is being done to protect our nation's ports and to monitor the people and goods that enter them.

First Annual International Symposium on Agroterrorsim
May 2–6, 2005 in Kansas City, Missouri
This symposium will bring together representatives from law enforcement, agriculture and food processing industries, the scientific community, academia, health and medical personnel, and government to help prepare for and respond to threats directed at the nation's food supply. Topics will include the vulnerabilities of and risks and threats to the food and agricultural sectors, weapons of mass destruction, and emergency response and notification. Homeland Defense Training Conference: Transportation and Border Security
May 3, 2005 in Arlington, Virginia
The Transportation and Border Security conference, to be held in the same location as the maritime security conference listed above, will examine the future of border and transportation system security. The conference will address what needs to be done to protect our nation's borders, including the ports of entry along 7,500 miles of land that borders Canada and Mexico; what can be expected from DHS and other government agencies; and upcoming procurements.

DallasCon 2005: Professional Cyber Defense Conference
May 2–7, 2005 in Dallas, Texas
DallasCon, which is geared toward technical professionals, will focus on practical approaches to network and wireless security. Topics will include wireless hacking, network penetration, encryption, and computer vulnerabilities. Online registration is available.

2005 Biodetection Technologies—The 7th Technologies: Technological Responses to Biological Agents
June 9–10, 2005 in Baltimore, Maryland
The 2005 Biodetection Technologies conference will provide information about real-time rapid detection and identification of threats posed by biological agents. Topics will include identification of unconventional pathogenic agents, use of imaging to detect biological agents, early warning decontamination systems for water security, and detection of biological aerosols.

Assessing Terrorism Related Risk

This workshop, provided by the S2 Safety & Intelligence Institute, will aid security and public safety planners in developing an effective methodology for evaluating terrorism-related risk. Attendees will be introduced to the various types of terrorism-related risk and will be walked through conducting a qualitative risk assessment. Exercises are used to aid participants in understanding risk assessment and in how to apply risk management principles in anti-terrorism and security planning.

Homeland Security Medical Executive Course

Sponsored by the Defense Medical Readiness Training Institute, this course will train medical officers and staff to meet the challenges and complexities of a CBRNE event or natural disaster in the United States and its territories. Topics to be addressed include the National Response Plan (an overview), surveillance analysis/field epidemiology, public health response to CBRNE, and all-hazards preparedness.

6th IEEE Information Assurance Workshop
June 15–17, 2005 at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, New York
This workshop, which will offer networking opportunities for information assurance researchers and practitioners, will focus on new technologies involving data visualization, honeynet systems, and biometrics.

International Symposium on NBC Terrorism Defense
June 16–19, 2005 in Choshi, Japan
To help reduce the risk of chemical terrorism, Chiba Institute of Science has organized this international symposium on nuclear, biological, and chemical terrorism defense to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the attack on the Tokyo subway by the Aum Shinrikyo cult. All oral presentations will be given in English, with simultaneous Japanese interpretation.

IABTI International In-Service Training Conference and Exhibition
June 19–24, 2005 in Palm Desert, California
The 33d International Training Conference, hosted by the International Association of Bomb Technicians and Investigators (IABTI), includes an electronics technology workshop, explosives exhibits, and explosive incident case histories and features a concurrent seminar for bomb technicians, bomb scene investigators, public safety officials, and equipment manufacturers.
